Number three on the essential sights and sounds to life in Athens: the sun, or ο ήλιος as the Greeks would say.
I love the sun. One of the highlights of my day is waking up early, making some coffee and then taking it out on the balcony, sitting there and eating my breakfast whilst journalling, reading the Bible and praying. It’s wonderful, and it’s warm enough to do this from April!
But then again, I really don’t like the sun. One of the frustrations of life out here is when you wake up early, make some coffee, take it out on the balcony, sit there, eat breakfast and open your Bible to read it, and before you’ve even finished reading the passage, you’re already going slightly pink. Ugh.
It’s great having such sunny weather, especially after living in rainy Manchester for four years! But it does have its downsides – living out here is not like being on holiday all year round! It gets really hot. And I can’t just go to the pool or beach. But it’s great to be able to live somewhere where the weather is predictably good most of the time.
